I’ve worked in various medical sectors,
including Gouverneur Healthcare Services, a
community-based clinic in the Lower East
Side and Maimonides Medical Center,
Brooklyn. Both places challenged me and
taught me so much, enriching my medical
education and experiences. But, I  still felt
unfulfilled. I knew that there was something
out there that was meant for me to conquer.
In 2006, I started my own medical practice. It
was the hardest thing I have ever done in my
medical career. I had no patients and initially
rented a single dingy room.

In March 2007, I had a serious injury that
caused me to stop practicing medicine. It was
devastating emotionally and physically. I had
to shut my practice down and I did not know
if I would ever re-open it or practice medicine
the way I knew before. Although it was a
major challenge, it allowed me to reflect on
how lucky I am to be a doctor. With much
struggle, I re-opened the practice and moved
to a bigger and brighter office.

My patients teach me everyday and I treat
people from all sectors of life: writers, doctors,
lawyers, therapists, journalists, scientists,
computer programmers, IT specialists,
nannies, babysitters, bankers, housewives and
the list goes on and on. It’s an honor and
privilege to take care of my patients and even
now, the breadth of my medical knowledge
expands because of them.
